The 2021-2022 NC AHEC Scholars Program at Northwest AHEC is off to a great start. The group of 41 Scholars had their orientation in September and are a great group of young minds ready to learn!

For over 15 years Northwest Area Health Education Center (Northwest AHEC) has been providing an online course called “Counseling for Change: An Online Tobacco Cessation Course”. This course is designed to provide tools to enhance the skills of healthcare providers when counseling for tobacco use including smoking cessation, exposure to secondhand smoke (SHS), the use of smokeless tobacco and electronic cigarettes.

In this workshop, we will provide an overview of anxiety symptoms and disorders as they present in adolescent patients along with current recommendations for assessment and treatment.

This conference is designed to provide diabetes best practices for healthcare professionals. Walk away from this conference with: practical ways for all disciplines to use to optimize telehealth, medical nutrition counseling, patient support and up-to-date medical knowledge. Participants will gain knowledge about specific topics in the field of diabetes management. It is imperative that providers remain educated in all aspects of their patients’ care, from clinical management to behavior and quality of life.

This knowledge-based activity will include innovative strategies for providing efficient, quality care to the growing number of people living with cardiovascular disease. Participants will receive information on future treatment strategies and their impact on the care of the cardiac patient.
