February is American Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about heart health, particularly for women. In recognition of National Wear Red Day and the Go Red for Women initiative, the Northwest AHEC team gathered at Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem for a staff engagement meetup focused on heart health.
The Building Partnerships for Healthier Hearts conference is an annual conference with over 25 years running. This conference brings together subject matter experts across Cardiovascular Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Emergency Medical Services to focus on best care for cardiovascular patients. On Monday, February 5th, the Northwest AHEC Team came together for a special gathering and team engagement activity in honor of American Heart Month. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease in women, and it coincides with National Wear Red Day. We were thrilled to support this important cause and kick off our year with a team outing at the Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem.

Fact: Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. It’s a third of our mothers, sisters, friends, neighbors, coworkers and more. Heart disease and stroke can affect a woman at any age, making it vital for all women to understand their personal risk factors and family history. Losing even one woman to cardiovascular disease is too many. More than one in three women is living with some form of cardiovascular disease. 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases may be prevented.
