WiSDM 2025 brings together a diverse group of professionals and performers for a multidisciplinary deep dive into the fundamentals of dance medicine. Topics will include:

• Unique biomechanical demands of dance
• Genre-specific injury risks and prevention
• Psychological and social influences on performance
• Evidence-based approaches to care for dancers

Our in-person gathering focused on the core principles of dance medicine, sparking enlightening conversations about the crucial role of biomechanics and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to care. The event took place on November 3rd, 2023 at the Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education in Winston-Salem, NC, attracting a diverse audience of 90 attendees from across North Carolina and 18 other states.

Participation in dance as a sport continues to grow. As a result of increased participation, therefore, there is a growing need for health care providers to understand this group of athletes and their unique demands: their biomechanics are extreme, their psychosocial stressors are significant and the treatments they require are unique.
