Supporting Heart Health: NWAHEC Team's American Heart Month Meet-Up

heartwalk2024On Monday, February 5th, the Northwest AHEC Team came together for a special gathering and team engagement activity in honor of American Heart Month. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease in women, and it coincides with National Wear Red Day. We were thrilled to support this important cause and kick off our year with a team outing at the Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem.

Fact: Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. It’s a third of our mothers, sisters, friends, neighbors, coworkers and more. Heart disease and stroke can affect a woman at any age, making it vital for all women to understand their personal risk factors and family history. Losing even one woman to cardiovascular disease is too many. More than one in three women is living with some form of cardiovascular disease. 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases may be prevented.
