Potential members of the next generation of doctors and health professionals got a chance to explore possible medical fields hands-on recently at Northern Regional Hospital. Thirteen local high school students interested in becoming registered nurses, physicians, occupational therapists, or other medical professionals participated in Camp Med 2023 summer program provided by Northern Regional Hospital and the Northwest Area Health Education Center, an initiative of the Wake Forest School of Medicine.

On any given day, there are an estimated 2.7 million children in the United States with at least one incarcerated parent. In North Carolina, the best estimate is more than 16,000. The most recent Annie E. Casey Foundation report shows that more than 5.2 million children (160,000 in NC) have experienced parental incarceration at some point in their lives.

On May 3rd, 2023 Northwest AHEC and Mountain AHEC hosted the 11^th Annual Breastfeeding Forum at the Mission Health A-B Tech Conference Center in beautiful Asheville, NC. After two years of being held virtually, the excitement of being able to gather in person for the Breastfeeding Forum was evident and could be felt throughout the event.

On May 19th, 2023, geriatric care professionals from across our region descended upon Village Inn Event Center in Clemmons to attend the highly anticipated 2023 Geriatrics Conference hosted by Northwest AHEC. The air buzzed with excitement as attendees finally had the opportunity to meet face-to-face after years of virtual events due to the pandemic.
