With FDA authorization, the CDC recommended that children 5 to 11 get a lower dose Pfizer vaccine. Clinical trials found the vaccine is safe and effective. There were no safety concerns or serious side effects noted in the clinical trials. 

Winston-Salem State University's School of Health Sciences (SOHS) and Northwest Area Health Education Center (NWAHEC) of Wake Forest University School of Medicine partnered to honor individuals who have made a positive impact on the health and wellness of the residents of East Winston during the Annual Healthcare Legends of East Winston event on Wednesday, October 20.

Northwest AHEC Practice Support would like to celebrate great work going on in its seventeen-county region. Grace Clinic of Yadkin Valley in Elkin, NC was one of six Free and Charitable Clinics nationally that received funding from grantee: Becton, Dickenson and Company (NYSE:BDX) to provide multi-year diagnostic testing.  This initiative which began in 2017 is called Point of Care, Enhancing Clinical Effectiveness (PoCECE) program.  The PoCECE program provides a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) waived point-of-care test system consisting of instruments, reagents and quality control to perform the following tests: Cholesterol, LDL, HDL, Triglycerides, Macroscopic Urinalysis, Microalbumin, INR, Hemoglobin A1c, Strep A, HIV, Rapid Hepatitis C, Pregnancy, Flu A & B, and RSV.  The grants also include technical support consisting of standard operating procedures, equipment setup and configuration, competency training and documentation.¹

The integration of behavioral health care into primary care is now widely considered an effective strategy for improving outcomes for patients with physical and behavioral health conditions. Reverse integration of primary care into behavioral healthcare is another form of integration that produces an improved quality of care and patient outcomes.

The 2021-2022 NC AHEC Scholars Program at Northwest AHEC is off to a great start. The group of 41 Scholars had their orientation in September and are a great group of young minds ready to learn!
