For 39 years the Gravidas at Risk Annual Perinatal Conference has been keeping attendees informed of the clinical issues and strategies important in the care of high-risk pregnant women. We had a very successful webinar last year for this activity and will hold this years conference via live webinar again. Holding webinars allows for better reach to our target audience and helps Health Department nurses obtain this critical information even on limited time and travel budget.
Roderica “Nicole” McLaurin was a beloved staff member of the Northwest AHEC. She unexpectedly passed away in October 2020 after delivering her second son, Dylan. Nicole grew up in Winston Salem and graduated from Fayetteville State University. During her childhood she was a little sister in the local Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) organization. When she returned home from college, she worked at BBBS and became a Big Sister herself. She lived the vision of the organization “all youth achieve their full potential.”

The goal of this statewide NC AHEC initiative is to inform nurses and other healthcare professionals about healthcare challenges and success in rural settings. Participants will learn more about the nursing and the team’s role in reaching the goals of Healthy NC 2030, Disaster Planning and Response, and how the Health Wagon brings healthcare to rural settings. Camp Med 2021 Recap

Wake Forest School of Medicine and Northwest Area Health Education Center (AHEC) just wrapped up Camp Med 2021. It was such a fun and educational experience with the best of both worlds with in-person Camp Med resuming in some counties and virtual Camp Med available to all as well! With 600+ participants enrolled across the Northwest AHEC region, North Carolina, and beyond it was a huge success.
