The North Carolina AHEC Pre-Scholars Institute aims to provide professional development and mentoring to historically underrepresented students interested in pursuing a career in health care. Students will thoroughly enjoy health science workshops taught by health science faculty from across the state of NC, health care professional guest speakers, games and more! Our goal is to expose and prepare teens for a variety of careers in healthcare in a fun and exciting way. We believe in funrichment (fun+enrichment)! The content will be delivered via live webinar and online modules.

It is important for primary care teams in the WFBCCC to better understand cancer and the cancer system, and to promote the primary care role whilst a patient is either receiving active treatment or transitioning into survivorship. This series will cover updated cancer screening guidelines and techniques for providers to implement them in their practices. Topics include the latest in screening guidelines, which patients are at a higher risk for certain diseases, how to have decision-making conversations with patients, and how to put this all into practice.

The Northwest AHEC (NWAHEC) is partnering with researchers from Wake Forest School of Medicine to learn more about naloxone prescribing to conduct a research study. We are interested in your experiences about patient education regarding naloxone. Your participation is voluntary and refusal to participate will not result in any penalty or loss of benefit.
To participate in this study, you are asked to complete an anonymous online questionnaire. We anticipate that the questionnaire will take no longer than 10 minutes of your time. After completing the questionnaire, you will be given an opportunity to enter into a raffle drawing for one of four $250 Amazon gift cards. The raffle entry is optional.

Join us for this LIVE WEBINAR on May 11th, 8:30am-12:45pm. This 4 hour presentation will review concepts and programs for suicide prevention for children and adolescents. According to recent national data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), almost 32% of high school teens experienced “persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness” and 17% reported having “serious suicidal thoughts” during the previous 12 months. Though only a small percentage of teens reported making a suicide attempt requiring medical intervention during the previous year (2.4%), undetected or untreated sadness, hopelessness, and suicidal thoughts can fester.
