Northwest Area Health Education Center (AHEC) celebrates 50 years in 2024. Since 1974, we have served as a primary resource for educational activities and services with a focus on primary care in rural communities and those with less access to resources. We provide advanced training to healthcare professionals and students to recruit, train and retain the workforce needed to create a healthy North Carolina. 

The 12th Annual Breastfeeding Forum took place on March 18, 2024, at the Hickory Metro Convention Center in Hickory, North Carolina. Guests enjoyed the chance to expand their knowledge and connect with like-minded individuals at this convenient and centralized venue.

Celebrate Nursing Week with us by taking advantage of our wide range of courses designed specifically for nurses seeking to earn continuing education credits.  The American Nurses Association is celebrating National Nurses Week 2024 May 6 - May 12, and throughout May.

The 38th Annual Respiratory Care Conference was held on February 21-22, 2024. This year, we saw a record turnout for the conference, with a remarkable 122 attendees joining us from all corners of North Carolina and beyond! The diverse crowd represented six  different states (FL, IA, NC, SC, TN, VA) and included representation from 49 counties in NC.

Clinicians receive little exposure to sleep medicine in medical training and often have limited knowledge of sleep disorders. Understanding how to diagnose and treat sleep disorders can allow clinicians to improve a patient’s quality of life and overall health. This course is tailored to clinicians who have an interest in Sleep Medicine. It allows those currently working in the field to learn the most up to date information on sleep disorders, while providing a multidisciplinary approach they can share it with their teams.
