The Ethics of Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy

As mental health professionals, we have an ethical duty to treat our clients with dignity and to respect cultural differences, including those based on religion and spirituality. In this module we will explore how taking an integrative approach to mental health therapy can improve outcomes for our clients. $35 registration cost for this activity.

Audience: This workshop will be beneficial to behavioral health and human service practitioners, including psychologists, social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, substance use and addictions professionals, clinicians and all others interested in this topic.

Diabetes Performance Improvement in Primary Care

This educational activity aims to inform the learner about the status of diabetes and chronic kidney disease in primary care. This activity will explore barriers and facilitators to promote patient engagement in treatment. This activity will focus on performance improvement methods and activities which promote health among patients with diabetes. The first 100 registrations will be at no charge, supported by Division of Health Benefits grant funding. After that, registrations will be $10 each.

Audience: Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, and Primary Care Office Staff.

Double Trouble: Diabetes and Falls

People with diabetes are at higher risk for falls. Etiologies include vision changes from retinopathy, damage to both peripheral and central nerves, side effects from medicines, and co-morbidities like osteoarthritis. Through use of a case study illustrating a familiar primary care patient encounter, learners will apply new knowledge, so they can anticipate and intervene appropriately in their work. An optional module on conducting the Diabetic Foot Exam is included. There is no charge for this online course. Course registration is generously supported by the Division of Health Benefits.

Audience: RNs, LPNs, medical and nursing assistants, and other health care professionals who interact with adult patients with diabetes.

This course presents the inter-relatedness of joy in work, burnout, safety, and silence in the healthcare setting, and the role that organizational 'just culture' has in optimizing clinician satisfaction and patient safety. This activity has no cost to participate.

Many practice settings are experiencing angry, hostile, and even aggressive behavior from patients, parents, caregivers, and others. Screening and Intervening for Unmet Social Needs

Everyone deserves to live their healthiest life. Unmet social needs impact health outcomes more than clinical interventions. The National Academy of Medicine, Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services and the World Health Organization have long advocated that screening for these needs be integrated into clinical settings but barriers exist. This course provides tools, resources and recommendations to support practice teams to screen and facilitate intervening to meet these needs. This activity has no cost to participate.

Audience: Nurses, advance practice providers, socials workers, and any other healthcare professional interested in learning about screening and intervening for unmet social needs.

The Nurse Educator Institute (NEI) is a competency-based curriculum written by nurse educators for nurse educators (or nurses exploring this role). Each of the four learning modules is interactive, engaging, and focuses on the core knowledge and skills required of faculty teaching in entry-level nursing education programs. Behavioral Health Reverse Integration Online Series

The integration of behavioral health care into primary care is now widely considered an effective strategy for improving outcomes for patients with physical and behavioral health conditions. Reverse integration of primary care into behavioral healthcare is another form of integration that produces improved quality of care and patient outcomes. These modules focus on the reverse integration process and provide details on how to implement this new model of care. This series is offered free of charge through support from the North Carolina Area Health Education Center.
