Northwest Area Health Education Center (NWAHEC) is gearing up for another fun and informative virtual Camp Med this summer. Last year’s camp hosted more than 600 participants from North Carolina and beyond. This year the self-paced camp will be available again to students in grades 8 to 12, from June 1 through July 31.

Join us virtually on June 16-17, 2022 for the NCPAT Conference. This year’s conference will feature a highly interactive learning experience from the House of Ruth Maryland Training Institute. Topics will include research on effectiveness of intervention programs, program design, being part of a community coordinated response, and supporting resilience and self-care.

Northwest AHEC has a long term department service to Senior Services of Winston-Salem. This article highlights Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist gift toward the construction of the new Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness which had its groundbreaking ceremony on April 27th. . 

WSSU School of Health Sciences and WFUSM Dept. of PA Students collaborate through Northwest AHEC on inter-institutional, interprofessional program which simulate management of patient care while integrating EHR Go software. 

Building on the success of previous ‘Lunch and Learn’ offerings to regional primary care practices, Northwest AHEC provided ten online self-paced modules in 2020-2022 on a variety of topics related to Best Practices in Opioid Prescribing and Management.

Northwest AHEC offered a workshop on April 13, 2022:  “Basic Fetal Monitoring for North Carolina Health Departments,” with Mona Brown Ketner MSN, RN, C-EFM serving as the faculty member. This activity, which was the second workshop of its type, educated 50 public health nurses from across NC Health Departments. The programs reached 21 of North Carolina’s 100 counties.

To meet an identified gap for clinical team members in ambulatory / primary care, Northwest AHEC developed an interactive, online, self-paced accredited program on the topic of Falls Screening, Risk Assessment and Care Planning.

Northwest AHEC joined the March for Babies movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially those most at risk.
