Katie Passaretti, MD, is vice president and enterprise chief epidemiologist at Atrium Health. Dr. Passaretti is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. She is a member of the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America.
Much to my disbelief, Katie isn’t in a lab in biohazard suits and respirators looking through microscopes and bubbling some panacea in a flask over a Bunsen burner. You will find her looking at data and trends to measure infection spread in the hospital setting. She uses those to find opportunities for ways to take action to reduce or reverse trends in infection.
In this podcast episode, Katie and I talk about the use of data in the electronic health record and AI era, common hospital pathogens, anti-biotic use in mitigating increasingly resistant strains, vaccines for prevention and the mRNA platform for vaccine delivery.
