On September 25, 2023, the Nurse Educators of Northwest AHEC embarked on another one of their regional site visits. This time, their destination was to Boone, North Carolina, home to the prestigious Beaver College of Health Sciences at Appalachian State University.

Building on the 2022 Annual Celebration of Rural Nursing, this year’s conference will focus on key topics that cover demographics from the infant to end-of-life healthcare spectrum for each generation. Content experts will discuss topics relevant to prevention and compassionate care for rural health disparities across the lifecycle. Program education topics will include: Infant mortality, adverse childhood experiences (ACES), suicide prevention for youth and adults, advance care directives, and hospice & palliative care.

Northwest AHEC Nurse Educators Alana Dodson, MBA, RN and  Stephanie Yoder, MSN attended the North Carolina Nurse’s Association (NCNA) Annual Convention on September 14-15 at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

Excitement filled the air on June 8th, 2023, as the AHEC Nurse Educators embarked on a journey to Iredell County for their first in-person visits since the pandemic. This momentous occasion allowed the nurses to connect with valuable partners within the Northwest AHEC region at Iredell Health System and Iredell Health Department, setting the stage for productive collaborations and discussions.

Without enough nurse educators to teach the increasing number of nurses that are needed, the health of North Carolina residents is at stake. Northwest AHEC has been collaborating for 16 years with key partners, Novant Health, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and our local Forsyth County based nursing academic programs at Forsyth Technical Community College and Winston-Salem State University’s School of Health Sciences’ Nursing Program. Together we have educated 420 active nurses to potentially serve as Clinical Teaching Associates to precept nursing students. Join us this December for the next workshop!
