The purpose of this series of classes is to improve the skills of individuals who provide or wish to provide interpreter services in any language in health or human services settings. Participants will learn the primary roles, ethics, and techniques of professional interpreting. The importance of cultural competence and confidentiality issues are stressed. Each level has self-paced modules, followed by a short Zoom meeting with the group and instructor. You will have access to the modules one week before the Zoom meetings with the instructor. The modules are required to be completed before the Zoom meetings.  Note: Most of the levels have prerequisites. If you do not complete the modules and attend the Zoom meeting for a level, you will not be able to attend future levels. Forty hours of medical interpreter training is one of the prerequisites to take the National Interpreter Certification Examination. He holds a BA in Spanish from the University of North Carolina Asheville and a MA and PhD in Spanish from Arizona State University. Dr. Holcombe is an expert on medical interpretation and national certification.
