It is important for primary care teams in the WFBCCC to better understand cancer and the cancer system, and to promote the primary care role whilst a patient is either receiving active treatment or transitioning into survivorship. This series will cover updated cancer screening guidelines and techniques for providers to implement them in their practices. Topics include the latest in screening guidelines, which patients are at a higher risk for certain diseases, how to have decision-making conversations with patients, and how to put this all into practice. This session will discuss detection and initial management of gynecologic cancers and pre-cancers, as well as workup/imaging/triage of ovarian masses, abnormal uterine bleeding, and vulvar complaints.
David Shalowitz, MD, MSHP is an Assistant Professor of Gynecologic Oncology with Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He specializes in cancer of the female organs and other related gynecologic surgeries.
