While heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women in the U.S., the American Cancer Society estimates that over 43,000 women will die of breast cancer in 2021. Those same estimates show that North Carolina will lose about 1,400 women, with nearly 10,000 new cases diagnosed this year. Breast Cancer is the second - leading cause of cancer deaths in women in the Tar Heel state.
