Objectives

  • Describe barriers and strategies for clinical care teams in the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD).
  • Utilize new methods to identify how diabetes and CKD disproportionately affect racial and ethnic minorities in clinical workflows.
  • Explain processes for screening, diagnosis, and raising awareness about diabetes and its connection to chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Presenter

Eugene E. Wright, Jr. MD 
Medical Director, Performance Improvement, South Piedmont AHEC
Dr. Eugene Wright serves and has served on several advisory and editorial boards to include Clinical 
Diabetes, Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics and as a content reviewer for UpToDate. Dr. Wright 
has served on the planning committee of the Clinical Conference of the ADA since 2009. He served as 
the inaugural chair of the ADA Primary Care Interest Group and as a member of the ADA/AHA Know 
Diabetes by Heart Science Advisory Group. Dr. Wright has published several articles on diabetes diagnosis, treatment and management and has given presentations at national and international meetings on new treatments and technology for diabetes.

 

Credit

• 1.0 Contact Hour from Northwest AHEC. Nurses: This educational activity (1.0 contact hour) can be 
applied toward your continuing competence plan for maintaining your current licensure with the North Carolina Board of Nursing
• The Wake Forest University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 
Accreditation: The Wake Forest University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation 
Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 
• AAPA accepts certificate of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. Physician 
Assistants may receive a maximum of 1.0 hours of credit for completing this program

 

Cost

The first 100 registrations will be at no charge, supported by Division of Health Benefits grant funding.  After that, registrations will be $10 each.
