Today we share a recent newsletter from CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services):

Learn About New CEHRT Requirements for MIPS Eligible Clinicians in 2023

Starting in the 2023 performance year, Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) eligible clinicians must meet revised certified electronic health record (EHR) technology (CEHRT) requirements for the Promoting Interoperability performance category.

MIPS eligible clinicians will be required to use certified health information technology (health IT) that has been updated consistent with the 2015 Edition Cures Update criteria to successfully meet the performance category’s CEHRT requirements next year.

2023 Promoting Interoperability Performance Category CEHRT Requirements

The 2023 CEHRT requirements for the Promoting Interoperability performance category are as follows:

  • 2015 Edition Cures Update functionality must be used as needed for a measure action to count in the numerator during the performance period chosen by the eligible clinician or group (a minimum of any continuous 90 days in 2023).
  • In some situations, the product may be deployed during the performance period but pending certification. In such cases, the product must be updated to the 2015 Edition Cures Update criteria by the last day of the performance period.
  • MIPS eligible clinicians must provide their EHR’s CMS Identification code from the Certified Health IT Product List (CHPL), available on HealthIT.gov, when submitting their data.
