September is National Fall Prevention Awareness Month

Did you know:

• One in four older Americans falls every year?
• Falls are the leading cause of both fatal and non-fatal injuries for people age 65 and older?
• Falls can result in broken hips (and other broken bones) and head injuries?
• Even falls without major injury can result in an older adult becoming fearful or depressed and therefore less active?

1. Piedmont Triad Area:

Falls-Free Expo, September 25, 2024

The first ever Piedmont Area Falls-Free Expo will be held from 9AM-4PM at the Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness | 114 West 30th St Winston Salem  27105

A variety of classroom and exercise activities, and open to anyone at ANY age! 

Registration is required.

2. Live outside the Piedmont Triad area?

The North Carolina Falls Prevention Coalition has a map and listing of events happening across the state, some with options for attending virtually.

From a radio program to Tai Chi, there is something for all.

3. Are you a health care professional who is interested in learning more about Fall Screening, Risk Assessment and Care Planning?

Northwest AHEC has developed an interactive, visually engaging, online program you can complete from your computer, tablet, or smartphone. This program focuses on outpatient health care professionals and the community dwelling adults they care for.  You will access practical, evidence-based tools and resources you can use immediately to protect your patients. Register today, there is NO COST for this online, self-paced activity.
