Questions about behavioral health in children or adolescents? Call NC-PAL!

NC- PAL is a collaboration between NC Department of Health and Human Services and Duke Psychiatry. It is a behavioral health telephone consultation program available to pediatric health care providers. 

You can call NC-PAL to be connected with the information you need. Resource specialists respond to clinical questions, make referrals, and connect providers to child and adolescent psychiatrists.  The board-certified psychiatry team is on hand to assist with diagnostic clarification and medication management.

What types of questions can NC-PAL help with?

  • Consultation on diagnoses, medications, and psychotherapy interventions for a wide range of behavioral health needs (e.g. mental health care guides, screening forms)
  • Connection with community resources (e.g. intensive in-home providers, support groups)
  • Information on government programs (e.g. enrolling families for WIC, CDSA, CC4C)
  • Guidance on behavioral health issues, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • NC-PAL is not an emergency/crisis line. If you are in need of emergency support services, please call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency department
  • If you Know Someone in Crisis: Call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. You can also contact the Crisis Text Line . (text HELLO to 741741)Both services provide 24-hour, confidential support to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress.  Contact social media outlets directly if you are concerned about a friend's social media updates.
