Funding to Support Team Based Teaching Sites in Rural North Carolina

The North Carolina Area Health Education Centers Program (NC AHEC) is seeking proposals to establish up to 5 rural interprofessional clinical training sites. 

 

The over-arching goal of this project is to improve the supply and distribution of primary care health professionals in rural communities of North Carolina. 

Community-based teaching is central to training and retaining health professionals in the rural counties of our state, but practices have limited resources and capacity to provide it. Recognizing that the need is great and can be addressed by both physician and non-physician practitioners, this project aims to develop models of outpatient team-based clinical education sites by supporting selected practices with $150,000 per teaching site per year. 

Eligible Applicants

  • Family Medicine, General Internal Medicine and General Pediatrics practices
  • Located in Rural Counties
  • Documented partnerships with North Carolina educational institutions that educate medical students, nurse practitioner students or physician assistant students (letter of support, affiliation agreement). Sites that do not currently have such a partnership are encouraged to contact NC AHEC for technical assistance.
