​COVID-19: Temporary Provider Rate Increases and Clinical Policy Changes Extended thru July 31  ​

NCDHHS has recently released two special bulletins outlining temporary provisions related to the extension of COVID-19 temporary provider rates and clinical policies.  Read more about these changes in Special Bulletins 169 and 171.   

SPECIAL BULLETIN COVID-19 #169: Temporary Provider Rate Increases and Clinical Policy Changes Extended 

NC Medicaid is extending COVID-19 temporary provider rate increases for all providers except hospitals and clinical coverage policies through July 31, 2021. While the rate increases for providers authorized under SL 2020-4 were set to expire on June 30, 2021, NC Medicaid has discretion to continue these and other temporary rate increases assuming budget availability. NC Medicaid will continue to provide updates in July on the status of these increases and may end the legislated or other rate increases at the end of July if these rate increases are not funded by the NC General Assembly.  

Extended Temporary Rate Increases 

NC Medicaid has determined that it is feasible, contingent on official extension of the federal PHE, to continue temporary fee-for-service rate increases related to COVID-19 through July 31, 2021 for all providers except hospitals. As we approach that date, NC Medicaid will reassess both needs and available funding for further extension of temporary rate increases. Please refer to relevant COVID-19 Medicaid Bulletins and Medicaid fee schedules for details and further communication.

SPECIAL BULLETIN COVID-19 #171: COVID-19 Rate Increases Under NC Medicaid Managed Care 

This Special Bulletin is being released to inform NC Medicaid providers of COVID-19 rate reimbursement that providers will receive from Prepaid Health Plans (PHPs) under NC Medicaid Managed Care. 

As previously communicated in the recently released Special Bulletin COVID-19 #169, NC Medicaid has extended COVID-19 temporary provider rate increases for all providers (excluding hospitals) through July 31, 2021. This continuance of the rate increases is contingent on the official extension of the federal public health emergency (PHE). Continuation of rate increases beyond July 31, 2021 depends on availability of funding.
