To celebrate National Volunteer Month, Northwest AHEC is thrilled to empower and assist our team members in making a difference in the community through volunteer work. Our primary focus lies in addressing pressing social issues like food security, housing, and employment. Several Northwest AHEC staff met up on April 4th to kick off National Volunteer Month at Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC to lend a hand in Community Meals, where each week thousands of meals are lovingly prepared, tray packed, and boxed up for delivery to programs serving seniors, children, neighbors living with disabilities, and others.
Atrium Health / Advocate Health is leading the way with the Atrium Serves Portal, a new volunteer portal which allows employees to register and explore opportunities for community service. Employees can set a goal for the year and sign up to help out each month at various community service activities in our area.
By participating in volunteer activities, Northwest AHEC not only contributes to addressing pressing social issues but also uses these experiences as powerful team-building exercises. These opportunities allow our staff to come together, bond, and strengthen their connections beyond their usual tasks and responsibilities. Through shared experiences of giving back to the community, our team members build camaraderie, empathy, and a sense of unity that transcends the workplace. This collaborative spirit enhances our work environment, fosters a culture of compassion and solidarity, and reinforces our commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of those we serve.
Here are a few other ways we've been giving back to the community lately...
