Using evidence-based medicine, this conference provides the latest updates on hospital medicine that you can implement into your daily practice. During this accelerated 2-day conference, you will engage in lectures covering a range of inpatient medicine topics led by expert faculty, along with an optional post-course point of care ultrasound workshop. Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Define updates in antibiotic regimens for common hospital medicine admissions: Pneumonia, Osteomyelitis, UTI / pyelonephritis and Bacteremia and endocarditis.
  • Transition from a patient’s home diabetes regimen.
  • Identify common mistakes in treating the post-DKA patient.
  • Recognize when to increase pharmacotherapeutics for patients admitted for COPD and review stepwise approach.
  • Describe when a prolonged steroid taper is appropriate for COPD exacerbations.
  • Describe the physiologic differences and use for the different modes of NIPPV
  • Identify contraindications for NIPPV, specifically for the inpatient setting.
  • List the most common etiologies for respiratory distress.
  • Identify key elements in a stat work-up for respiratory distress.
  • Identify patients appropriate for SGLT2 inhibitors.
  • Recognize when a patient would benefit from a cardiology consult/referral.
  • Describe the most recent guideline-recommended management of: Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis, Refractory Ascites, Hepatorenal Syndrome and Hepatic Encephalopathy.
  • Recognize risk factors for hospital acquired delirium in older adults.
  • Describe appropriate interventions to prevent and treat hospital acquired delirium.
  • Analyze the latest relevant evidence-based literature from top-tier journals.
  • Learn to effectively read medical journals and identify practice-changing updates beneficial to patients.
  • Identify the most misused radiological studies.
  • Identify most common unnecessary uses of contrast.
  • Identify when to use different fluids (lactated ringer’s; normal saline; half NS; dextrose).
  • Explain the workup for hyponatremia.
  • Review FAST exam for critical patients.
