S.T.A.B.L.E. stands for the six assessment and care modules in the program: Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work and Emotional.
Objectives for this activity:
Upon completion of this knowledge-based program, participants should be able to:
Describe appropriate interventions for neonatal emergencies.- Discuss the initiation of IV fluid therapy in sick newborns.
- Identify infants at risk for hypothermia, the detrimental effects of cold stress and methods of rewarming.
- List the signs of respiratory distress and the indications for positive pressure ventilation with bag/mask or ETT.
- Recognize causes, presentation and initial treatment of hypovolemic, cardiogenic and septic shock in newborns.
- Identify clinical signs of infection and the recommended lab work needed prior to transport.
- Describe ways community hospital caregivers can support parents of sick newborns.
- Demonstrate proper care of the compromised newborn during skill lab session.
