The 38th Annual Respiratory Care Conference was held on February 21-22, 2024. This year, we saw a record turnout for the conference, with a remarkable 122 attendees joining us from all corners of North Carolina and beyond! The diverse crowd represented six different states (FL, IA, NC, SC, TN, VA) and included representation from 49 counties in NC.
Since 1986, the Annual Northwest AHEC Respiratory Care Conference has aimed to provide a larger perspective on patient care concerns through continuing education sessions that are representative of all levels of expertise in the field.
Topics for the 2024 conference included: COPD: Changes in GOLD Standards; Advanced Practice RT In Transport Environment; Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD);Treatment of PE; Lung Transplants; Modes of Ventilation; RCP License Renewals and NBRC Credentialing Requirements: What I Need Know in North Carolina; Conscious Sedation in the Peds ED; Ways to Achieve Compliance with Patients Who Need CPAP/BIPAP and Beyond; Personalizing Pharmacotherapy in COPD: Why Device Selection Matters; Update in Burns - Initial Management; Ambulatory Oxygen and Understanding the Difference Between Walk for Desaturation, Oxygen Assessment for a Prescription, and the 6 Minute Walk Test.

2024 Conference Objectives:
- Provide up-to-date, patient-centered and evidence-based practices in respiratory care.
- Explain the importance of respiratory therapists in improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
- Discuss new treatments and advancements associated with respiratory care.
