Today, the Northwest AHEC team came together for a meaningful tradition—the 5th Annual Walk in Memory of Roderica “Nicole” McLaurin, held in support of the March for Babies/March of Dimes. We gathered at the beautiful new J. Dudley Watts Jr. Belews Lake Park, enjoying a lovely day to connect with colleagues, friends, and family as we walked in Nicole’s honor.
Nicole was a beloved member of the Northwest AHEC team who tragically and unexpectedly passed away in October 2020 following the birth of her second son, Dylan. Each year, we walk not only to remember Nicole, but to support a cause that aims to create a healthier, more equitable future for mothers and babies across the country.
We were grateful to be joined by Nicole’s mother, Stephina Walker, her sons, Kameron and Dylan, family friends, and Northwest AHEC staff who had the privilege of working with Nicole. It was a day of remembrance, reflection, and community.
The March for Babies brings people together to raise critical funds and awareness to combat America’s maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. We are proud to play a small part in this movement and to continue honoring Nicole’s legacy in a way that brings hope to others.
