Objectives

  • Identify risk factors for the development of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia.
  • Identify s/s of hyperbilirubinemia and best practices for care.
  • Discuss community resources available to children and families after discharge.
  • Discuss information related to social and emotional supports offered to children and families enrolled in the North Carolina Infant-Toddler Program through the Winston-Salem Children’s Developmental Services Agency.
  • Identify potential routes from caregiving to trauma in an environment where infants and families with a substance-exposed pregnancy receive care.
  • Recognize potentially traumatizing caregiving experiences.
    Identify opportunities to support colleagues when caring for infants and families with a substance-exposed pregnancy.
  • Discuss high risk scenarios that may take place before and after discharge and identify factors that can determine outcomes.
  • Examine the social worker's role and scope of practice related to infants and families experiencing an SEP.
  • Relate nursing and social work practices to the overall care planning for infants and families experiencing an SEP.
  • Relate the care team's assessments to potential custody outcomes.
  • Describe potential safety plans when birth parents do not have full custody of children.
