This course focuses on skills needed for providing basic breastfeeding management and support - including prenatal and postpartum counseling and management of common concerns and clinical problems. The training includes five days of didactic instruction, two days of clinical rotations in hospital and public health settings, and an independent study assignment.
(NOTE: Subject to COVID status as of Fall 2021, this event will be live webinar on the following dates: Sept 1 & 2, Oct 6 & 7, and Dec 6 & 7.)
Objectives
- Discuss factors that contribute to the breastfeeding decision.
- Explain the importance of optimal positioning and latch-on.
- Identify common considerations and causes of issues with milk supply.
- Describe hospital policies which contribute to successful breastfeeding.
Who Should Participate
Health care professionals including lactation consultants, physicians, midwives, health educators, nurses, nutritionists, social workers, and others who provide care to mothers and infants in any health care setting are encouraged to participate.
