On March 18, 2025, lactation consultants, peer counselors, nurses, and breastfeeding advocates gathered at the Hickory Metro Convention Center for the 13th Annual Breastfeeding Forum. This highly anticipated event welcomed 120 attendees for a full day of education, networking, and meaningful discussions aimed at strengthening breastfeeding support for families.
The first presentation addressed medication safety for lactating individuals, highlighting commonly prescribed medications and their compatibility with breastfeeding. This was followed by a thought-provoking session exploring the complexities of using human milk, including challenges surrounding milk donation, accessibility, and health equity.
Later, the focus shifted to the postpartum period, with an emphasis on the critical role of mental health and the value of community-based support systems for new parents. The day concluded with a powerful session examining the barriers to breastfeeding across different cultural groups, along with practical strategies to better support these families.
The 13th Annual Breastfeeding Forum left participants feeling inspired and better equipped with new knowledge and tools to enhance their work. As breastfeeding advocacy and education continue to grow and evolve, forums like this play a vital role in advancing best practices, fostering collaboration, and empowering families on their feeding journeys.
We look forward to next year’s gathering and the continued momentum in supporting lactating parents and their infants!
