Comorbid psychiatric disorders are frequently observed in children and adolescents, and at substantially higher rates among children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The symptoms of these disorders can diminish the effectiveness of therapeutic treatment, including treatments aimed at addressing core symptoms of ASD. Identifying and treating comorbid psychiatric disorders should be part of a comprehensive care plan for clients receiving treatment.
